Empire Magazine Evaluation

Today in our media lesson we was given two film magazines as a guideline on how to make our own film magazine one of the two magazines we were given was an Empire magazine which showed an image of a film which is set to be released soon the image shows Tom Cruise who is the highest profile actor out of all the actors/actress among him. Then in bold writing the words "MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE 4" is shown and beneath it the talk on the topic on which the article about Tom Cruise is on.
The word Empire is in Empire magazines signature font and colour but the letter "P" is in not shown as it is covered by the head of Tom Cruise this is an effect which is usually used by magazines with the letter O which is the most circular letter.
At the very top of the magazine there is a strip going across which says "Lord of the rings 10th birthday" The words "lord of the rings" are in the signature lord of the rings font and colour the the words "10th birthday" is in the signature Empire font next to this is a image of a charcter from the lord of the rings (Smegol)  this gives the reader the impression that there is a secton within the magazine devoted to Lord of the rings.
At the bottom of the magazine the it shows even more about the lord of the rings with even more images and captions such as "Watsons unseen art" which gives the viewer the impression they are going to see something no other person has.

Poster Feedback

After creating the final draft of the film poster i printed it out and asked for feedback from people both within and outside of the sixthform centere. The feedback we receieved was mainly positive and some people believed it was an actual film poster for a film yet to be released. Some of the feedback we received was.

  • "One to watch, the picture does not give away much"

  • "Nice , simple yet effective"

  • "its creepy &Simple, really good looks professional!"

  • "I like the way the M is coloured and bloody it gives an idea what the film may be about when is this set for release?"

  • "The words Masked and Murderer should be bigger"

  • This is a fraction of the feedback that was given but out of all the feedback that was given there was only one critisicm which was to have the words "Masked" and "Murderer" bigger but besides that our poster has only received positive feedback.

    the poster mistake!

I made this poster on a website called http://www.picnik.com/ it took me roughly 2 hours to find the right font and size, i also had to recreate the poster twice as i had made a few minor mistakes as you may be able to tell from the photos above. I decided to go with this font as it had blood dripping and in the title the word murderer is present within the title of film which, gives the impression there will be blood involved in the film.

Back to the topic of the poster mistakes i had put coming soon when i really should have put a date then i also put the wrong date when putting as my date of birth instead of my birthday in 2012

    MAGAZINE COVER

This is the  first magazine cover i created trying to replicate the font and style of a empire magazine. I believe this is a good attempt and i will also have members of my group create there own magazine cover to see which one looks as if it could be sold in he shops.

    creating a magazine cover

Today i looked at a few film magazine and begun to replicate them and make it my own i started by finding the correct font whichh was "Georgia", after finding the correct font i began to look for the correct shade of red which was not to hard to do. The next step was tp make sure that what i was writing on the magazine over was that of what is usay on the cover, for example the issue the date and even promotion for other films besides the main image. The magazine cover is stil in production but what i have done so far seems to be on track for a great magazine cover.

    The spirit film poster

The poster for the spirit (Gabriel Macht) (2008) shows the main character in the foreground with his body in silhouette and his face partially lit. This is a great effect  because the only thing in colour is the main characters tie which is red a colour which is mainly used for film noir films this is a great example of one as the title “The Spirit” is also in red and in the same font as “sin city”  another film noir, The main character standing in the foreground seems to be wanted as there is men with guns in the background pointed at him and there is also something which looks like a police helicopter pointed in his direction. Although there is so much commotion going on behind the character, he stands; firm and strong making him seem like an independent character.
In the background, there is four billboards which show four different characters with the name of the name of the actor in red a popular colour for film noir. As I mentioned earlier the characters are also in black and white besides the lipstick of two of the women which gives  the effect that there is an element of sexiness  in the film. Also the poster shows quotes of the four characters in the background for example Eva Mendes’ character who looks provocative says “do I look like a good girl?”
The poster would make more people want to watch it by the actors/actresses starring in the film such as ; Samuel L. Jackson, Eva Mendes , Scarlett Johansson and Sarah Paulson. These actors/Actresses have all been in successful films that would make people want to watch it more as they have experienced actors in the film.
The background of the Poster is ain a sepia tone with darker areas in the dingy corners the streetlights are the spots that light the posters.
The bottom of the poster has information such as the title in big bold red writing, a slogan “He’s something the World Needs…” the release date “Christmas 2008” this does not gve you an exact date but an insight to when the film will be released. In addition, above the release date it shows the production company and actors and other people involved.

    poster photos test shots

Today we took the first photos for one of our ancillary tasks, making a film poster. The photos we have taken today were test shots and have turned out rather well some of the photos we took could be used for the poster as the quality and standard was high.

The images we took today showed the "Masked Murderer" close up only showing the mask this image can be placed ontop of another image to create a background or even faded into another image.
